The Process of Adoption

Shakinapoet

Rom 8:15 “For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.” For some time now I have been toying with the idea about buying the AncestryDNA test kit. So I decided to stop putting it off and I went ahead and purchased one this week. Being adopted has left me with many unanswered questions about myself and where I come from. When I was 16 years old I met my birth mother, sister, uncle, grandma and some cousins on my mother’s side. When I was 40 I might have met my birth father however, he passed away before we were able to confirm our relationship. I still have many questions about my ethnicity and who could possibly be my birth father. I’m currently in the process in trying to have my adoption records unsealed so I can know the names who are listed on my original birth certificate. As

I continued to pondered about my background and try to figure out the answers from whence I came from. I told my husband in many situations adoptions are a beautiful thing however, the adopted and birth parents don’t know what it does to a child, to not know where they come from. I’m 44 years old and I still have many questions about my background and also seeking closure on the truth about my birth parents.

I was then reminded how as believers in Yeshua we are also adopted into a new family. I remembered when I was around 8 years old my name was changed from Green (birth name) to Lewis (adopted name). Thinking back I can remember how happy I felt to final belong to someone. Somebody chose me to be in there family. They could have chosen anyone else but they chose me. When a couple or individuals look to adopt a child there is a process they must go through first. One main process is home study where someone from the state comes out to assure that their home is suitable for a child.

In comparison to that the Holy Scriptures tell us how our Healthy Father prepares a home for us. Also there is cost associated with adopting a child, the adopted parents must be in a financial position to care for the child. The Scriptures tells us that we are brought with a price. Yeshua paid our adoption fees with His blood in order for us be grafted in. Of course there are more steps to complete in order to finalize an adoption of a child but, I wanted to show the connection between adopting a child and how we were adopted into the Lord’s family.

I cannot speak for no one else but I remember the joy I felt at 11 years when I first accepted Yeshua as my Lord and personal Savior. I felt the same joy the day I was naturally adopted. I’m favored to experience this twice in my life. In closing no matter who your birth family is either you were raised by them or not. I encourage you to remember the price Yeshua paid for us to be adopted into His family. He paid with his life so we can inherit the Kingdom of G-d. With that being said let’s make it our business to make our Father proud.

Shabbat Shalom

You’re Sister Shakina
