Free From Debt

Shakinapoet

Psalm 37:21 "The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth."

Baruch Atah Adonai Eloheinu, Melech Ha Olam/Blessed are you O Adonai our G-D, King of the Universe. Shabbat Shalom Mishcopa/Happy Shabbat family

My husband and I decided that we want to purchase another home. We are content where we are at, but we desire to have something new. I envisioned myself with much land where someday my grandchildren and pets can run free. At the same time, we decided on our plans to buy another home. We chose first to pay down some debt. Therefore we came up with a two-year plan to be mostly debt-free.

In early 2000 I worked as a housing counselor, and I had to explain to my clients that less debt you have, the more house you can afford. We called this debt-income ratio, meaning that the lender needs to ensure you can afford the mortgage payment with the remaining debt you already have. Yes, we could quickly look at buying a home right now. However, we will be limited ourselves if we buy a home with existing debt.

This morning I inquired to the Lord and asked Him what I should write for today's devotions. He shared with me the same way you have a plan to become debt-free. I created a plan to pay the debt of sin. When trying to pay down the debt, we want to pay down the principal balance, especially if you have a car note or other installment loan. Your monthly payment only goes on the interest rate first, then the principal balance. But when you pay extra on the principal balance, you save in interest and pay it off sooner. I pondered more on this concept of paying down debt. I asked myself why to do us as human beings get ourselves in debt and then have to work out a plan to get out. There are a few people in the world who live debt-free. They are willing to save for what they want and resist the urge to buy now. I know, in some cases, most people can not escape debt. Many of us don't have money for college, so we get a student loan or have money to spend over 1000,000 down on a home, so we get a mortgage. But for those who feel like some debt is necessary, let's not be content in having.

So what is the point of all this? Apostle Paul encourages us in Romans 13:8 to owe nothing, but love is a powerful reminder of how the Lord does not want us to be slaves to debt. Psalm 37:21 "The wicked borroweth, and payeth not again: but the righteous sheweth mercy, and giveth." In Matthew 18:23–35, Yeshua Hamashiach shared a parable how The Father forgave our debt of sin as we repent, but when we don't forgive others, we shall reap His wrath.

In Closing, I encouraged you whatever debt you have naturally or spiritually pay it. As believers, we are called to live free from sin but also free from debt.

Shabbat Shalom
