Called to Justice
Shabbat Shalom Barch Ata/ Happy Sabbath and Blessed The Name,
Just like many of us, I was saddened by the news of George Floyd who died by the hand of a police officer who continued to place his knee on George’s neck while ignoring his cries that he couldn’t breathe. This unfortunate situation has caused our nation to rise together and protest for justice to be served. Besides, many began to take advantage of George’s death and used this as an opportunity to loot, steal, and destroy property. As the week went on, I continue to hear a series of events of looting, violence, theft and protesting until the officers who were involved were finally charged. I saw on the news how people from all cultural backgrounds came together to protest against racism especially against Blacks or African Americans or people of color. I watched live footage of activists and people of color share how they are tired of being mistreated by a White supremacy system that is designed to keep people in color in bondage.
As believers in Yeshua, how should we react towards the constant mistreating and racism towards people of color? What part do we play during these trying times within our nation?
I was reminded of how I watched some of the biblical movies and saw how there was a war between the Jews/Hebrew and the Romans. During the times of Yeshua, the Jews were looking for a savior a king someone who would overthrow the Roman government (John 11:48). Jews during this time were tired of how they were being mistreated by the Romans. The writing of Josephus explains how the Jews went into a revolt against the rising of the Roman Empire in Israel at the time. Yeshua prophesied that not one stone that is standing will be left but he was talking about what happened in 70 A.D. when the Romans burnt down the temple (Mat 24:2). As we can see throughout history there were many protesters between those who were treated unfairly and fought for their rights. The question I asked myself is why we have to fight for rights that were already given to us by G-D. We are all created in his image, we all bleed the same color, breathe the same air, have the same organs, and internally function the same. But somehow many believe one race is better than another based on skin color. In my opinion, there is only one race and that’s the human race. Our skin color should not dictate how one should be treated.
In that regards since we live in a falling world and Satan is the god of this world (2 Corinthians 4:4) we will continue to have men under his influences that will try to oppress others. Satan was cast down because he wanted to be like G-D and exhaust himself above Him. He became proud because of his beauty and wanted to be G-D (Ezekiel 28:17). Racism has the same prideful attribute as Satan; when someone tries to exhaust themselves above someone else. Not just racism but anyone who thinks they are better than someone else is operating in a spirit of pride. And G-D hates pride (Proverbs 26:12) because it reminds Him of Satan and He also hates injustice (Proverbs 22:8). I’m not saying we should not fight for our rights to be treated fairly and have the same opportunities as others. We see examples throughout the Bible where G-Ds people had to fight for justice. But according to the scriptures, there will always be a fight and things will get worse before gets better (Mat 24:7).
In closing, as believers in Yeshua Hamashiach, we need to remember the greatest war is within man (Mark 7:21-23) and our warfare is not carnal (2 Cor. 10:14) accept you be born-again and spirit-filled you always need to fight against your brother and your sister and mainly yourself. And lets us remember there is heavenly war but, we win at the end (Revelation 12:7–10).
So what is our role in the earth realm as believers during these trying times? Phil 2:15 KJV - 15 “That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;” Therefore continue to shine your light and rejoice because our redemption draws nigh (Luke 21:28).
Shabbat Shalom.
Love Your Achot/Sister
Shakina
